Weekly Review No 125 (1944) Army and Airforce Daily Life in the Solomons: A huge Douglas transport plane arrives at the main NZ Army base at Guadalcanal bringing mail and supplies. RNZAF Kitty Hawks accompany a squadron of American dive bombers on a mission from New Georgia. On the ground, airforce crews work around the clock to keep their planes in the air. American bombers destroy a Japanese supply dump. Kiwi soldiers enjoy a few hours leave on Lunga beach and visit the wrecks of Japanese freighters destroyed by the US Navy in 1942. On Florida Island, village life is slowly returning to normal after the Japanese were driven out. Children here are allowed to smoke once they reach the age of 5 and once they do, they 'puff away like little chimneys' Duration 06.53
