Weekly Review No 211 (1945) Churches Confer on Christian Order: 200 delegates from eight different denominations meet at Christchurch's Church College to discuss common issues among the denominations including the Christian community in the Pacific, and church issues relating to Maori, land and education. 01.20 Italy, Kiwis On Leave: NZ troops on leave visit the New Zealand forces club at the Hotel Danieli in Venice. The RNAF captured the hotel when the Allies invaded Italy and left it running as a base with the soldiers receiving the 5 star treatments that patrons had received pre-war. The New Zealand soldiers eat prawns and drink beer at a Fascists college they have taken as another leave center. 03.36 Camera On Ruapehu: Mount Ruapehu releases ash leaving it invisible from the Desert Rd. The lighter ash from the volcano blows as far as Hawkes Bay. Most of the North Island has seen some of Ruapehu ash. On the mountain there is some visibility for ski club members keeping a close watch on the crater between runs. Scientists take magnetic measurements and geologists survey the activity by studying lava ejected from the mountain. Duration 08.57
