| Weekly Review No 142 (1944) Nissan Island, Awards to New Zealanders: Men of New Zealand's Pacific Division receive decorations for action against the Japanese during the invasion and consolidation of Nissan Island. 01.20 Wash Day in the Pacific: Soldiers wash themselves and their uniforms including one man who's built his own washing machine and ringer. Unfortunately the ringer falls to bits while he is demonstrating it to camera. 02.35 Guadalcanal Army Mules: The Pacific War isn't all men and machines - the army mule is a very useful beast on jungle and mountain trials that vehicles can't use. These horses and mules are treated by vets for everyday injuries and those received in action. 03.55 Mediterranean Front, Reinforcements and Wounded: New Zealand troops arrive in Egypt on their way to reinforce the division in Italy. "They've got a very good chance of being in for the kill in the Western Theatre of war and the heart of Germany is their final destination." The men embark on troop ships that take them across the Mediterranean Sea. Although the war in North Africa is over, there are still troop camps in the desert and soldiers are leaving for Italy. Meanwhile in Wellington, a hospital ship arrives in port with the first New Zealand wounded home from the fighting in Italy. There are joyful dockside reunions. Back in Egypt, Brigadier General Weir inspects the New Zealand reinforcements on parade. These are the men who will see the end of the war in Europe.
